The 47 Society Mailing List was first established in 1994 as a forum for sharing the enigmatic sightings and occurences of the number 47. It is a place to share ideas about these occurences in an effort to both amuse ourselves and simultaneously plumb the philosophical depths (if any) of this phenomenon.
The list was originally hosted by a Majordomo program at Teleport (formerly an ISP in Portland, Oregon), then moved to Lyris, then moved to OneList, which was then purchased by eGroups, which was subsequently absorbed by Yahoo! Groups, where the list currently resides.
The 47 List is posted randomly (of course) as stories, sightings, and ruminations are submitted.
