47-l-digest Sunday, March 1 1998 Volume 01 : Number 011

Subject: ISBN 47

I've just finished reading Patrick Tilley's Amtrak Wars sexology (or
hexology, if you prefer), and I noticed that the ISBN's of the books were
all 0-7474-five other numbers.

I am not aware of any other 47's I may have missed in the series -
perhaps someone else has some?

Subject: ad man 47

[this from the guy who works on the miller lite ads:]

If you love the number 47, you're going to love this: every time my
designer friend Steve Sandstrom and I do a project that requires a
number, we use number 47. So far it's shown up on posters for a bagel
company in the Midwest, on postcards for Tazo tea, on materials for a
film production company in LA called Pavlov Productions and on a slip of
paper saying "inspected by number 47" to be inserted in every videotape
sent out by FilmCore editing in LA and SF.

Additionally, when I underwent a transfusion of white blood cells
recently in Seattle, I asked how long it would take before I noticed
something. The doc responded, "the median response time is 47 days."

I'm a believer.

Subject: Take-out 47

I ordered take-out Chinese food last night. While standing line I heard
them call out numbers 72 and 73, yet somehow my order number was ... 47.

CAMILLE (La Dame aux Camelias) by Alexandre Dumas fils

This is how these details came to my knowledge. On the 12th of March
1847, I saw in the Rue Lafitte a great yellow placard announcing a
sale of furniture and curiosities....
