Subject: Now the fun begins!

[Here's where it gets good...]

Eric:
This post is a perfect example of the 47 coincidence phenomenon. I
came across this society about two months ago, and here's a post from
my home town. I know exactly where Robbinsdale Cooper High School
is--right next to my elementary school. And I know the first Eileen
Miloy who ever owned a millinary shop on its stage. This is too much fun!

47 Sighting: Final moments of the movie, "To Die For" starring Nichol
Kidman, when her character is videotaping herself with tape numbered 47.
This is from my memory, please confirm yourself given the chance. I'm a
Pomona College alum hoping to help the spirit of 47 prosper.

Subject: 47s from a resident pro

We had a midterm today; the prof came out at one point and said "It's 11:47
now, so you have 5-10 more minutes..."

For some reason every time we talk about a movie for my film theory class,
the prof always initially thinks the movie was made in 1947...

We watched *Sunset Boulevard* for that class; in it, William Holden's
character mentions he is writing a baseball movie, about a "rookie
shortstop batting .347"...

Found in my wallet: a receipt from Draeger's, bearing the cryptic code "47
DLAL 12" in the upper left-hand corner.

On X-Files a couple of weeks ago the suspect (really a scientist come back
from the future to prevent his own research ever happening) runs off to his
hotel room, which is #47. (Sometimes I wonder about the X-Files, because I
know some of the people from Trek have ended up running things over there.
Wonder if the 47 phenomenon has spread to them too? Will I have to set up
a new web page?)

[and these:]

Seems every time I send off an e-mail to the list, another bunch of 47s
crop up. Well, here are a few more...

In my film seminar the other day the VCR was inexplicably set to channel
47. The "Channel 47" video display popped up each time the VCR was stopped
(and since this is a film class, we do switch tapes a lot).

There is a group of people out there (http://www.cauce.org) who want to
amend Title 47 USC 227 to make unsolicited commercial e-mail illegal.

A few weeks ago I picked up the campus paper for the first time in a long
while. Of course it was issue #47...

On _Homicide_ last week the medical examiner puts back together Beau
Felton's skull; she says it was in 47 pieces. (Ha! I love this show; I
post to their NG regularly. Wonder if the producers found my page
somehow...or is it just an amazing coincidence...)

There is an ad posted on a bulletin board in the campus drama department
(I'm running tech for a drama production) that boasts of the Sacramento
Music Circus' 47 years of entertainment. (I'm actually from Sacramento,
which makes it even more interesting.)

And I could swear that I'm being followed around by maintenance truck #947...

And again it happens...

Went to the library today to watch a film for class; was assigned to a
booth with headphone set #47.

Noticed that the infamous shower scene in _Psycho_ takes place 47 minutes
into the film. (I needed to note the time for a presentation.)

Likewise, a particularly noteworthy segment of Ingmar Bergman's film
_Persona_ takes place 47 minutes into it (it's the recurrence of the
prologue montage).

Walked back into my room upon coming back from the library to find the
roommate watching MTV's top 500; they were on #447.

An experiment we're looking at in our film practice class involved 47
different soundtracks applied to different images to study the influence of
music on mood.

An article we're reading for another class has on one page citations of
both p. 47 of one work and p. 347 of another.

Let's hope that sending this one might keep them away for awhile (heaven
forbid!)

I took a road trip from northern California down to Pomona with a
non-believer in the car. On the trip down we saw 7 license plates with
47 in them, three trucks which had 47 in their ID numbers and 2
advertised phone numbers with a 47. The non-believer is not quite a
believer yet, but his arguments are weakening!

"A group of sunspots that first appeared in April 1947 was the largest ever
observed." It would have been cool if this had also been on page 47 of the
magazine, but it was on page 48 instead. I just wanted to pass along this
astronomical 47.

OMAHA -- New Orleans Zephyrs first baseman J.R. Phillips set what is
believed to be an American Association record Tuesday by hitting four
homers in a seven-inning game.

"That was an awesome display," Zephyrs manager Matt Galante said. "I don't
think any of those were wind-blown. ... The fourth one, I just can't
believe it. Especially since he hit it so hard."

Three others hit four homers in American Association games, but a spokesman
from the league office in Cincinnati said he thought Phillips was the first
to do it in a seven-inning contest. The Class AAA American Association
shortens doubleheader games to seven innings.

The four homers also set a record for Rosenblatt Stadium, which hosts
Royals games and the College World Series.

In the movie "Vegas Vacation" (please don't suffer through that like
I foolishly did) a second order 47 appeared in one of the unorthodox games
played at the unusual casino (which I recognized at the Gold Strike Inn on
the way to Hoover Dam, having lived too long in Vegas myself). The game
was guess a number between 1 and 10. Chevy Chase guessed 4, the "dealer"
was actually thinking of 7.

The other day I won my first trophy in a triathlon, and I'm
convinced it was the power of 47.

It was my 4th 10k run in a race, and my 7th triathlon.

There were 47 women in my age group who started the race.

My race number was 124 (4=4, and 1+2+4=7) AND my friend
Chris' number was 469 (lucky in more ways than 1).

My ranking in the swim was 474.

The only other trophy I've won since about the age of 7 was
in a biathlon this winter. My race number? 740.
